Is Vitamin D Important During this Pandemic?

A recent article published  online on Apr 2, 2020, showed that through several mechanisms, vitamin D can reduce risk of infections. This same article has a table showing the results of vitamin D randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on risk of influenza.

“To reduce the risk of infection, it is recommended that people at risk of influenza and/or COVID-19 consider taking 10,000 IU/d of vitamin D3 for a few weeks to rapidly raise 25(OH)D concentrations, followed by 5000 IU/d. The goal should be to raise 25(OH)D concentrations above 40–60 ng/mL (100–150 nmol/L). For treatment of people who become infected with COVID-19, higher vitamin D3 doses might be useful. Randomized controlled trials and large population studies should be conducted to evaluate these recommendations.”

Is Vitamin D Important During this Pandemic?

There are over 15 observational studies investigating the connection between vitamin D and COVID-19. (A recent paper (1) reviewed these studies.

Of these 15 studies, 12 found an inverse association between vitamin D levels and the risk of severe COVID-19 infection (meaning people with lower vitamin D had a higher risk of severe infection).

What Action YOU Can Take

  1. Know your Vitamin D Blood Level. Called 25 (OH)D levels .
  2. CLICK HERE to use the Vitamin D  tool  to calculate the estimated additional Vitamin D intake needed to reach your target vitamin D serum level (40-60 ng/ml recommended by scientist panel).
  3. Learn what steps to take to improve your level, and take action to achieve and maintain a vitamin D level of 40-60 ng/ml (100-150 nmol/L).
  4. To supplement with Vitamin D I recommend THIS ONE
