How can we find courage? What is courage?
Courage is defined as “strength in the face of pain or grief”.
At these very uncertain times, I seek ways to build courage and look to people in history that have turned from fear to faith. To me, Faith is hope, optimism and all the good that still exists.
How can we find courage? Here are some great quotes about courage.
“I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.” —Nelson Mandela
“There is no living thing that is not afraid when it faces danger. The true courage is in facing danger when you are afraid.” —L.Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz
“When we are afraid, we ought not to occupy ourselves with endeavoring to prove that there is no danger, but in strengthening ourselves to go on in spite of the danger.” —Mark Rutherford
Today I found this beautiful quote from Melody Beattie.
She speaks about “weakness” as any habit of mind or heart that prevents us from seeing things as they are with our entire capacity to feel.
Here is what she says, “I am humbled to admit that the only difference I see on Earth between being strong or weak is the honesty with which we face ourselves, accept ourselves and share ourselves, blemishes and all.
The way I see it, it is human to feel scared and vulnerable and anxious. It is good to share our truth and to share how we are dealing with that.
I hope some of these words help you. There are so many places we can go to find amazing acts of courage from people and events worse than what we are facing now. It helps to read inspiring stories of courage that remind me of the resilience of the human spirit.
