Do you ever think about keeping your lungs healthy? “The lungs are very durable if they’re not attacked from the outside,” says Norman H. Edelman, M.D., chief medical officer of the American Lung Association (ALA).
With a few exceptions, your lungs don’t get into trouble unless you get them into trouble, he says. That is why lung health is closely tied to Environmental health. We often forget that the most important environment is – our home.
Research is revealing surprising health risks posed by our everyday products and habits. Almost overnight, a toxic world has been built around us. Make the choice to create a healthier environment for you and your family by choosing one or two from the list below and protect your family from the hidden dangers within your very own home.
To simplify my wellness recommendations, let’s go back to basics:
A = Antioxidant Protection
B = Be a Wise Consumer
C = Cleanse and Detoxify Your Body
Tip #1: Boost Your Defenses with Antioxidants.

Tip #2: Stop Smoking
Both active and second hand smoke create major inflammation in the lungs. This is THE most important step to take!
Strategy #3: Drink Safer Water
Use a reverse osmosis system or carbon filter pitcher to reduce your exposure to impurities such as chlorine, perchlorate and lead.
Strategy #4: Choose better body care products
Most personal care products have preservatives and parabens that penetrate through the skin to create cellular disruption. Learn which products are safe! Go to my website to learn what products Dr Karen recommends.
Strategy # 5: Clean Greener.
Household cleaners, bug killers, pet treatments and air fresheners can contain hazardous chemicals. Check out less toxic alternatives. Be especially aware of asbestos. This mineral is found in homes and can pose a threat if it becomes disturbed. Mesothelioma, is an asbestos caused cancer that forms when this mineral is broken and then inhaled. Although this is a rare cancer that affects 2,000 to 3,000 new people a year, let’s put an end to it. To learn more about Mesothelioma CLICK HERE
Strategy #6: Pick plastics carefully
Some plastics contain toxic chemicals, including BPA and phthalates. Don’t reuse single-use containers or microwave food in plastic containers. Avoid PVC by hanging a natural-fabric shower curtain. When remodeling, go with PVC-free flooring and pipe
Strategy #7: Eat low-mercury seafood
Choose low-mercury fish such as salmon, tilapia and pollock, rather than high-mercury tuna and swordfish.
Strategy #8: Go organic and eat fresh foods.
Determine which fruits and veggies you should always buy organic and those with the least pesticide residue that are ok to buy conventionally grown. Choose milk and meat produced without added growth hormones. Limit canned food, since can linings usually contain the synthetic estrogen called bisphenol A (BPA). A food resource is www.FoodNews.org
Strategy #9 Keep Your Colon Clean!
Your colon is about 5 feet long and functions like a powerful storage and waste disposal site in your body.
A healthy diet full of fiber and probiotics (good bacteria and yeast), plenty of rest and water, and regular exercise keeps your colon healthy.
Strategy #10: Reduce Refined Sugars
High glycemic foods create inflammation of the body and toxic waist. Inflammation occurs is from a rapid rise in blood sugar, which causes biochemical changes in the cell. Staying away from sugar and high-glycemic (simple) carbohydrates, which the body rapidly converts to sugar, is one of the best ways to decrease inflammation. That is why I do a SUGAR BUSTER LIVE TELEGROUP every month to support people in a low glycemic lifestyle.
