Last week a new tax on Sugar Drinks passed in California! The new tax rate is one penny per ounce of sugary drink and it passed through the California State Senate Governance and Finance Committee for the first time. The bill will now be discussed at a hearing in the Senate Committee on Health tomorrow, May 1!
I am not one to wait for the government to make the changes we need, but every step is a step toward healthier children!
The proposed legislation would raise $ 1.7 billion a year in revenue that will go directly to the Children’s Health Promotion Fund. The fund will help local schools and communities implement effective strategies to keep California children active and healthy.
