Your Killer Fat Cells

Your Killer Fat Cells
Beyond the scale

Fat tissue is now recognized to be the body’s biggest endocrine organ. Endocrine organs produce hormones that regulate metabolic activities elsewhere in the body. For example, the pancreas produces insulin, which regulates the storage of fat, protein and glucose. Fat tissue is an endocrine organ because it produces hormones that play a key role in metabolism, appetite control and reproduction.

Fat-storage cells churn out a stew of hormones and other chemical messengers that fine-tune the body’s energy balance.

The fat around your middle is a big source of in-flame-ation. This fat is often referred to as your VAT (Visceral Adipose Tissue). I like to call it BAT (Belly Adipose Tissue). Your VAT makes a fire in your belly that sends inflammatory messages throughout your body.
