Next week you have the opportunity to join me “virtually” on my Health and Education Retreat in Rosarito, Mexico.  I have the pleasure of taking a group of wonderful “wellness Seekers” on a Wellness Travel Adventure to Sanoviv Medical Institute in Rosarito, Mexico.

Be sure to “like” my Facebook page HERE

This will be my final retreat to  Sanoviv and I am going to be sharing my trip online. We will be having a wonderful Detox & Rejuvenation experience while completing the Sanoviv Nutrition Advisor Certificate.

The ocean view and  manicured gardens and sparkling pools are gorgeous. The environment is peaceful and restful and offers a full  mind/body healing experience.

Sanoviv has the best of conventional medicine and proven alternative medicine combined together under one roof. This beautiful facility was built with toxin-free building materials.

The meals are free of gluten, dairy, soy, sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and toxins. They are also low-glycemic and 100% delicious. The photo below is Quinoa Stuffed Bell Pepper. We wear comfortable clothing that is made from 100% natural fibers, allowing our body to breathe and detoxify.

Quinoa Stuffed Red PepperEach room is an oceanfront suite including a large balcony overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is a large living area in every room room and  a queen size bed. A television is included in each room, with limited access to certain channels, so that you are not distracted from your detoxification and treatment. Specific suites include a companion room that consists of a single size bed, desk and closet. A large, private bathroom is included in each suite.

And yes…I can connect with my online wellness community because there is internet access available in a special room, allowing us to utilize these tools and yet minimize electromagnetic interference with our healing.

I will share some of that adventure with you and maybe you will pick up a wellness tip (or two) to integrate into your everyday wellness plan.

Remember to follow me  HERE and join the adventure!

The Path to Create Health In One Phone Call

dr-karen-relaxedYesterday I had a phone call which reminded me of why I chose the “road less traveled” in my career. (The path of creating health versus treating disease). Let me tell you about the call. I will not use names of course to protect confidentiality.

A young man had been experiencing significant daily pain for many years due to an autoimmune condition. When I heard his story, I knew that optimizing his nutrition could really support his health plan. His doctors had suggested the SCD Diet (Specific Carbohydrate Diet) which had helped him but was too restrictive to keep as a long term lifestyle. I was able to share with him my Clear the Way Detoxification Program.

I explained to him the role of the gut in our immune function and the need for the liver to be supported. I also described the role of Vitamin D in immune function and how optimizing his diet with a low glycemic, nutrient dense eating plan could help him.

He is committed to the Clear the Way Detoxification Program for three months.  I felt such gratitude to be able to help a person in need who has struggled to find solutions to his significant health challenge.

This is why I do what I do. Every day I am able to guide someone on their health journey. We need more voices communicating this message.

I have to give credit to Sanoviv Medical Institute for the opportunity to take groups on my  Health and Education Retreats. It is here that I have learned this functional approach to creating health.

Are You Pooping All Wrong?

GUT IMAGeSAre you pooping all wrong? Squatting is apparently the most  healthy way to poop. The modern toilet seat creates  a style of pooping which puts upward pressure on the rectum and creates the need to STRAIN in order to eliminate. Compare sitting on the toilet to a kinked garden hose: It just doesn’t work properly. In a squatting posture, the bend straightens out and defecation becomes easier.

I first discovered Squatty Potty at Sanoviv. Squatty Potty was on the Shark Tank in November, on Season 6. The company makes stools designed to aid in constipation, by enabling users to squat instead of sit while at the toilet. “We need to educate and inform the public that bathroom posture is extremely important for our health and that a simple change in posture can make the world of difference,” said Bobby Edwards, who appeared on the show with his mother and business partner, Judy.

They got a deal with Lori, who gave them $350,000 for 10 percent of their company. Edwards praised her involvement, saying she was instrumental in securing a great spot at Bed Bath & Beyond.

As far as his appearance on Shark Tank goes, at first, Squatty Potty met with resistance because it was bathroom-related. They were considered as a Season 5 contestant, but then were dropped, which made the hopeful entrepreneurs change their approach. “In our second auction tape we really nailed down that Squatty Potty as a health tool, a solution available to help people suffering from elimination issues and not just a novelty. We were told this helped us change their minds and allowed us to get on,” he explained.

This is the just the beginning for the growing company, who wants to “change the way America Poops, one stool at a time.” Although this may seem like a Herculean task, Edwards is confident that he can accomplish the goal. “We plan on making Squatty Potty a household name,” he said.

Squatty Potty Toilet Stool stores under your toilet when not in use and doesn’t take up extra space. You place both feet on the platform and your knees are pushed above your hips, creating a natural “squatting” position. It’s how people used to poop before the invention of the modern toilet, back when we were still doing our business in the woods.
