Sugar is our #1 Recreational Drug of Choice

One of my favorite snacks is frozen yogurt. I always get the fat free variety!

Well…. when you look at the ingredients label and sugar content, I am  better off eating a candy bar!

I thought low-fat yogurt was supposed to be good for me??? Think again……..So now the research is taking a turn and looking at a new villain causing lifestyle diseases: SUGAR!!!!

Sugar, and refined flours create conditions in the brain  similar to what happens with cocaine and heroine. Sugar and flour can affect your brain just like drugs of abuse. Research shows that rats already addicted to cocaine and heroine will SWITCH and turn to sugar, that’s how powerful it is!  It’s the refining process that makes sugar and flour so dangerous to our brains!!

Eating fresh, live food nourishes our body, boosts longevity, calms cravings and helps us feel energized. Eating a 100 percent raw diet is one of the most radically transforming and healing ways to eat. People with cancer, autoimmune conditions and arthritis have experienced some of the most amazing results by eating a simple, clean, raw diet. 100 percent raw is not  something I would  choose to do lifelong. My plan is to be 80%  plant based long term.

I am not trying to push my dietary ideals onto others. I am doing the 30 Day RAW challenge to take my nutritional plan to the next level in a supportive community. I will be trying new clean recipes and shopping lists as I find I get in a rut with preparing the same foods all the time. I will be exploring more recipes with whole foods and without cooking like Fresh “Pad Thai” without the meat and noodles!  Just cut, blend, mix 👌🏽 My husband will not be joining me on the challenge but he will have the benefit of trying new whole foods we have not had before. I trust my deep dive into this challenge will inspire people to live a better life.

Dr Karen Health Talks Podcast – How to Make Fermented Foods 101



Fermented foods have a lot of health benefits. They are rich in enzymes, which help speed up digestion and absorption in our system. They are also rich in good bacteria, specifically lactobacillus acidophilus, which is an extremely beneficial flora found in the gut.

A study published in the International Journal of Obesity even found that some types of probiotics promoted weight loss.

NOTE – Most fermented foods you can buy in supermarket jars or cans have been pasteurized and cooked at high heat, killing any friendly bacteria. You’ll have to make your own pickles or sauerkraut to retain those products’ bacterial benefits. (If you take basic precautions in fermenting your own, there’s little risk.)
