Do Dog or Cat Owners Live Longer?

Do dog or cat owners live longer? If you want to live a longer and happier, consider adopting a pet.

Science shows pet owners are reaping an impressive number of health benefits. These include reduced risk for heart attack and stroke, lower levels of pain, better immune function—and yes, improved longevity!

A large recent Swedish study found that dog owners have a lower risk of death from all causes. Especially those who live without the company of other humans. The conclusion of the study in 2017 was that dog ownership appears to be associated with lower risk of cardiovascular disease in single-person households and lower mortality in the general population.

That said, if stress and anxiety are your primary concern, you might opt for a cat because cats appear to be better stress-reducers. A 10 year study of more than 4,000 Americans by researchers at the University of Minnesota’s Stroke Institute in Minneapolis found that owning a cat could reduce your risk of a heart attack by nearly one third.  The finding provoked a mixed reaction from heart experts and veterinarians. Do You Know About The Healing Power of Pets?

Do you know pets have healing power? Such as

  • Lower blood pressure
  • less risk of heart disease
  • reduced anxiety

The number of scientifically proven health benefits of pet ownership is rising faster than the number of chew toys strewn around your house.

These health pluses aren’t just the result of the extra exercise you get walking your dog or playing hide-and-seek with your cat. The bond that you and your pet develop is also part of the equation.

“Owning a pet gives you a sense of purpose and belonging that can increase feelings of positivity and lower stress levels, all of which translates to health benefits,” says Allen McConnell, PhD, a psychology professor at Miami University who studies human-pet interaction.

Research shows that people who interact with animals experience a boost in levels of oxytocin, the hormone that promotes love and trust and is linked to reduced blood pressure and heart rate. Regularly playing with your pet helps too. “Play, such as challenging your pet to find a hidden toy, helps build the bond between owner and pet and brings you closer,” says Kate Perry, a certified dog trainer and the author of Training for Both Ends of the Leash.

What Exactly Is CBD Oil ?

I get asked a lot about my opinions on CBD Oil. I had to research it myself because this is new to the medical and wellness world. I knew it had something to do with marijuana, but I needed to turn to my functional health community to really understand the science.

Here are some TOP TEN basics about CBD.

    1. Both hemp and marijuana are part of the plant family known as Cannabis.
    2. CBD is short for cannabidiol, that is found in hemp and marijuana. There are 60 different known cannabinoids.
    3. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) (THC), the well-known psychoactive cannabinoid.
    4. CBD is non-psychoactive because it does not act on the same receptors as THC.
    5. CBD hemp oil is made from high-CBD, low-THC hemp, unlike medical marijuana products, which are usually made from plants with high concentrations of psychoactive tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
    6. The reason THC is so famous is because it’s associated with the psychoactive high that people experience after smoking or ingesting weed.
    7. Although CBD and THC act on different pathways of the body, they seem to have many of the same medical benefits.
    8. CBD has gained a reputation as a safe, non-psychoactive treatment for a range of health concerns. As a result, many different kinds of  CBD products have been developed, including oils,  edibles, and vaporizer liquids.
    9. While there are many different pathways driving the positive health benefits of CBD, the center of its abilities seems to be that CBD is a very effective natural anti-inflammatory.
    10. CBD products may  be sold in certain states that have legalized medical and/or recreational marijuana.
